From The Writers Almanac— Today is the birthday of writer and wit Dorothy Parker (books by this author), born Dorothy Rothschild in Long Branch, New Jersey (1893). She went to a Catholic elementary school, but she was asked to leave after she referred to the Immaculate Conception as "spontaneous combustion."
